Welcome

The 2nd Bilateral Israel-Taiwan Life Sciences Conference - From Basic to Translational Research in Life Sciences - 7-9 June, 2015, Tel Aviv University

Dear friends,

It is my great pleasure to welcome the second bilateral Israel-Taiwan Life Science Conference that is taking place this year, for the first time in Israel, at Tel Aviv University. We are honored to be hosting it and to continue the tradition of high-level participation of experts that was initiated last year towards the dissemination of a range of topics of scientific interest to both Israel and Taiwan.

Topics range from cellular and structural biology, omics, cell growth and cell cycle, the biology of cancer, microbiome and CRISP to genetics, bioengineering and nanomedicine - all of which represent the vast research, technical challenges and achievements of scientists working in the immense field of life sciences in our hyper-connected world.

The Conference will include outstanding speakers from both countries, including well established scientists of renown. We welcome Nobel Laureates Professor Ada Yonath and Professor Aaron Ciechanover, Professor Ruth Arnon (President of Israel Academy of Science and Humanities), Professor Chi-Huey Wong (President of Academia Sinica), and all the emerging stars of the future.

Tel Aviv University endorses the broad range of science, technology and international cooperation that forms the basis of this conference. Our interdisciplinary approach in matters of research, our researchers, and our innovative endeavors are critical in ensuring continual flow of knowledge, innovation and talent.

The successful organization of this impressive event required the devoted commitment and time of the organizers, to all of whom I would like to extend my grateful thanks.
I wish you all both enjoyment and benefit from the Conference, and look forward to continuing this cooperative endeavor for many years.

Professor Joseph Klafter

I am pleased to see that the second Israel-Taiwan Life Science Conference has been smoothly organized and will take place at Tel Aviv University in June this year. This joint conference covers a number of topics of interest to Israel and Taiwan, ranging from cellular and structural biology to post-translational modification and the emerging fields of omics, nanoscience and CRISPR. My sincere thanks to the outstanding speakers from both sides, including well established scholars such as Nobel Laureates Professors Ada Yonath and Aaron Ciechanover, as well as emerging stars. Without their participation and presentations, this symposium would not be possible. I hope that through the symposium, the participants will have the opportunity to interact with each other and find their common interests for further collaboration. It is our expectation that this kind of meeting will be held regularly further strengthening our relationship and fostering new opportunities for collaboration.

I also would like to thank Professor Dan Peer for his help in putting together this impressive program and Representative Simona Halperin for her enthusiastic coordination to make this meeting possible. Finally, I wish you all good health and hope the symposium is a big success.

Chi-Huey Wong

President of Academia Sinica
